Two Jaish, 3 Lashkar militants arrested in Kashmir

Baramulla, Aug 30 (UNI) Security forces arrested two militants of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in north Kashmir's frontier district of Kupwara last evening, police said today.

Superintendent of Police (Kupwara) V K Kumar told UNI that troops of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) arrested two Jaish militants during a search operation at Lolab valley in Kupwara district.

Two AK assault rifles were also seized from them, he added.

With this, five militants have been arrested by the security forces from north Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

Yesterday, three militants of the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were arrested by 15 RR troops at Wangam village in Bandipora area of this district in north Kashmir.

The arrested LeT militants were identified as Javed Ahmad Sheikh of Wangam, Feroz Ahmed Magray Alias Faisal of Qazipur and Mohd Shafi Khan of Naupura.

On sustained interrogation, the militants said they were Lashkar militants and involved in planting of IED in Putushai village on August 26 and firing on security forces patrol on Aug 16 at Wangam.

Three Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLs), 12 UBGL grenades, five hand grenades, two remote control IEDs and two mobile phones were also seized from them.
