Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government will bear stamp duty charges to the tune of Rs 3.15 crore to get back TANSI land from Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterprises, in which former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa and her close aide Sasikala were partners.

Replying to the debate for demand for grants to the Home Department, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said 'the government wanted to get back government lands. The government is prepared to bear the stamp duty charges'.

He recalled that the Supreme Court, while acquitting Ms Jayalalithaa in the TANSI land deal case on Novemebr 24, 2003, had asked her to atone herself and give back the land to the government.

'Till now it was not handed over to the government because of the stamp duty charges to the tune of Rs 3.15 crore. The government had decided to bear it', he added.
