TN Govt to release undertrials above 10 yrs

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced undertrial prisoners, who had been serving jail term for more than ten years, would be released on the occasion of the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai on September 15.

Mr Karunanidhi was responding to Mr T Velmurugan (PMK) who drew the Chief Minister's attention in this regard and pointed out to the release of prisoners in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister immediately responded and said those who had served ten years and above would be released on that day, on humanitarian grounds.
