Telgi seeks time to make confessional statement

Bangalore, Aug 30: The recording of the confessional statement of prime accused in the multicrore fake stamp paper scam Abdul Kareem Telgi was postponed yet again today, with the city Court accepting his plea to wait till the Supreme Court disposed of his petition seeking personal appearance for making the statement.

This was the eighth time that the recording of the statement was being postponed, including twice on health grounds.

After allowing Telgi's plea made through video conferencing facility from the Yeravada jail in Pune, Fourth Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vasanthkumar posted the case to September 13.

Telgi had appealed to the Apex Court to allow him to personally appear before the city court to make the statement.

On May 26, the special court, trying all cases related to the fake stamp paper scam, had allowed Telgi to make a statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
