Tamil Nadu General Sales Tax Bill introduced in Assembly

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today introduced a Bill in the Assembly to exempt licensed software with complete Tamil version, hank yarn and gum benzoin (sambirani) from levy of sales tax.

Introducing the Tamil Nadu General Sales Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2006, in the House, Commercial Taxes Minister S N M Ubayadullah said the exemption was announced in the budget speech for the year 2006-2007.

Accordingly, a notification under sub-section (1) of Section 59 of the Tamil Nadu General Sales Tax Act, 1959, had been issued to amend the first, second and third schedule to the said Act.

The Bill was to replace the said notification, he said and added that the Act shall be deemed to have come into force on July 22, 2006, he said.
