Sub-committee to look into self-financing college issues
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 30: The Kerala Government today appointed a Cabinet sub-committee to finalise the fee structure and admission procedures in self-financing professional colleges in the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict.
Addressing newspersons here after a meeting of the state Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said Education Minister M A Baby would be the convener of the sub-committee in which Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran, Public Works Minister P J Joseph, Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran and Transport Minister Mathew P Thomas would be the other members.
He said the Cabinet sub-committee would hold talks with all concerned to finalise the fee structure and admission procedures.
The admission process in self-financing colleges had seen troubles after the college managements admitted students in the ratio of 50:50 in the management and government quota.
The government wanted to implement the newly-enacted legislation that would curtail the number of seats allotted to managements.
However, the Supreme Court directed both the parties to admit students in the ratio of 50:50, this year.
