State govt demands special package of Rs 3200 for flood loss

Jaipur, Aug 30 (UNI) Rajasthan government has demanded a special package of Rs 3200 crore from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation after flood claimed 139 deathsm with the Barmer district alone reporting 104 deaths.

Civil Supplies and Relief Minister Kirorilal Meena while addressing a press conference here today said the major task before the state government was the relocation and rehabilitation of about 7000 people from the villages of Malwa, Kawas and Bhatla villages, devastated by the flood in Barmer district and this required Rs 400 crore.

He said the state government has granted an ex gratia payment of Rs 1.34 crore as compensation to the kith and kin of the dead. The repair and restoration of the roads require Rs 333.99 crore while the reconstrcution and maintenance of the damaged houses need Rs 124.27 crore. The restoration of the drinking water supply and water resources requires Rs 53.30 and 37.11 crore respectively.

He said the restoration of the damaged tanks of the panchayati raj institutions demanded an expenditure of Rs 28.77 crore while input subsidy to the farmers was estimated to be to the tune of Rs 520.65 crore. Medical and health care and veterinary health care for livestock and replacement of dead animals was estimated to be Rs 106.56 and Rs 212.24 respectively.

In the special package the state government has demanded Rs 74.65 crore for restoration of power supply network and wage employment to the affected families at Rs 1230.08 crore.

Mr Meena said the air droping of essentials and hiring helicopeters would incur an expenditure of Rs 10 crore while the goverment has incurred an expenditure of Rs 2 crore for evacuation of the people from the flood hit villages.

Provision of temporary accomodation, food, clothing and draining off flood water needed Rs 60 crore. Cost of search and rescue and cost of clearence of debris needed another Rs 6 crore. Thus the total special package needed for the state was estimated to be Rs.3200.96 crore.
