SEC to complete local body poll work before Sep 9

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu Aug 30 (UNI) State Election Commissioner (SEC) D Chandrasekaran today said preparations for holding local body elections in Tamil Nadu will be completed before September nine and the voters' list will be published tomorrow across the state.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Chandrasekaran said the current tenure of the local bodies will end on October 24 and the SEC would be ready to hold the elections when the dates were announced.

The State Election Commission had held review meetings with the officials of 29 districts already.

About 200 polling booths in Cuddalore have been identified as sensitive and steps are on to intensify vigil in the places.

Elections would be conducted for 1.35 lakh posts in the state and 83,000 polling booths would be set-up. About four lakh government staff would be involved in poll-related work, he added.
