Sanction against Lalu illegal: Counsel

Patna, Aug 30 (UNI) Arguing on the discharge petition before special CBI judge Munilal Paswan, the counsel of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today said sanction for prosecution against Mr Prasad was illegal in RC 63(A) of the multi crore fodder scam.

Mr Prasad's counsel Chitranjan Prasad Sinha said the governor sanctioned the prosecution even without prior approval of the cabinet and the sanction order was signed by the deputy secretary of the governor and not by the governor.

The case is related to the fraUdulent withdrawal of over Rs46 lakhs from Banka and Bhagalpur treasuries of Bihar in animal husbandry department and was registered in 1996.

The matter would be again heard on September 5.
