Protests held after students suffer acid burns in Kishtwar

Jammu, Aug 30 (UNI) Protests were held in the Kishtwar area of Doda district here after four students suffered acid burns when an inflamatory substance was thrown from the laboratory of a school.

Senior superintendent of police, Doda range, Manohar Singh told UNI that on Thursday last students of Naga Batna High School in Kishtwar were conducting some experiment in the laboratory when it caught fire. On the instruction of science teacher Mumtaz, lab assistant Ezaz immediatly threw the burning chemical out of a window. It spilled over some students who were passing by.

He said students suffered some minor injuries and were discharged after first aid treatment in a local hospital.

Local people held demonstration against the incident and accused the school authorities of negligence.

Sources in the school said adequate precautions have been taken so that such incidents were not repeated in future.
