Pondy admn committed to protect Karaikal interest
Pondicherry, Aug 30 (UNI) The Pondicherry administration is committed to protect the interest of the people of Karaikal region, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.
Replying to a calling attention motion on the frustration among the people of Karaikal over the Government's failure to give proper representation to the region in group "C" and teachers recruitment, the Chief Minister said the administration had enhanced the number of seats in the Pondicherry Engineering College for Karaikal students to 75 and other steps were also being taken to protect the interest of the people there.
Mr Rangasamy ruled out the possibility of providing a regional reservation stating that the region would be affected since, it may lose some of the posts otherwise it might have got.
Earlier, pointing out the situation, Mr S P Sivakumar (DMK), who drew the attention of the government demanded that the government provide 25 per cent reservation for Karaikal in apointments.
