PMK, PMC row: opening of panchayat office put off

Pondicherry, Aug 30 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Kakayanthoppe in Ariyanakuppam commune panchayat following a wordy duel between PMK and PMC cadre.

Police said Kakayanthoppe Village Panchayat Office was to be opened today and the PMC, which had won the Ariyankuppam commune panchayat had printed the invitations for the function without the name of Mr Anandaraman, PMK, MLA of the constituency.

This angered the PMK cadre who gathered at the venue and indulged in a wordy duel with PMC workers, resulting in police intervention.

The shamiana and chairs arranged for the function were damaged and the inaguration of the panchayat office building was postponed.
