PM sanctions Rs 3000 crore road projects for Punjab: Minister

Jalandhar, Aug 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sanctioned Rs 3000 crore projects for strengthening road network in Punjab, state Public Works Department(PWD) Minister Pratap Singh Bajwa today said.

Speaking at a function in Kartarpur, 22 kms from here Mr Bajwa said that the Prime Minister had accorded sanction for the projects last week.

The central sanction had paved way for conversion of Sambhu Barrier(Ambala)-Jalandhar highway into six lane road and widening of Amritsar-Pathankot, Ambala-Chandigarh and Kiratpur Sahib-Anandpur Sahib roads into four lane highways, Mr Bajwa said.

He said that these projects would be completed in the next two years.

Mr Bajwa said that it was for the first time when such huge amounts had been sanctioned by the prime minister for road projects in Punjab.

Earlier Mr Bajwa launched Rs 7.85 crore project for strengthening two local link roads.

Local Self Government Department Minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh also spoke on the occasion.
