PM on a daylong visit to Solapur on September one

Mumbai, Aug 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone of western region system strengthening scheme-II of the Power Grid Corporation of India in Solapur on September one.

The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held at the Power Grid sub-station near Chincoli village in Walsang taluka on the Solapur-Akkalkot Road at 1115 hrs.

The unique scheme executed by the Power Grid Corporation aims to import about 4000 mw of electricity from the Eastern/Northern region to improve the power situation in the Western region and Solapur situated in South Maharashtra, official sources said. The project is expected to be complete by 2009.

Solapur is the hometown of Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.Apart from Mr Shinde, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh,Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and State Energy Minister Dilip Walse-Patil will be present on the occasion.

Dr Singh will also hand over possession keys to bidi workers in Solapur of their new houses constructed with subsidies from central and state governments and also contribution from the beneficiaries themselves at the initiative of local CPM MLA Narsayya Adam.
