Physical training, yoga to be made mandatory in K'taka schools

Gulbarga, Aug 30 (UNI) Physical training and yoga will be made mandatory in all primary schools in Karnataka and a special syllabus on 'physical education' will be introduced from seventh to ninth standards.

Disclosing this at a press conference here today, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti said all primary schools would henceforth have a physical training teacher and they would be first imparted training in yoga.

He said a committee had been set up to go through the standard of physical training in schools and suggest measures to improve it. The committee was expected to submit its report in two months and the recommendations would be implemented within a month.

Mr Horatti said headmasters and physical training teachers would also be given Rs 200 interim relief like other teachers and physical education teachers could even become headmasters.

He said the Government had distributed 70 lakh health cards to school students. Free medical facility would be provided to the card holders for all serious ailments.
