Nationwide raids by BIS to check misuse of ISI Mark

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has carried out 21 raids across the country yesterday on firms misusing ISI mark.

The raided firms were found using ISI mark unauthorizedly on items of mass consumption including packaged drinking water, GLS Lamps, biscuits and self adhesive electrical insulating tapes and more.

In a press release issued here today, BIS Chief Vigilance Officer Anant Dhul informed that by using such type of spurious household products, the safety and health of common consumer is at great risk.

He informed that the Bureau strives to safeguard the interests of public at large through providing ISI Marked products and public in return should also inform BIS, if it comes across misuse of ISI Mark by any manufacturer or trader.

During the current drive, one raid was conducted in Punjab at Pinky Plastic Industries, Hoshiarpur who was found misusing BIS Standard Mark on PVC Conduit Pipe under the brand ''Plasto 2000'' and a huge quantity of spuriously marked products were seized.

One raid was conducted at Shivalik Cattle Feeds, Jammu who were found misusing the mark on Compounded Feeds for Cattle under the brand ''Shivalik''.

Three raids were conducted in Delhi. Out of these, one raid was conducted at Singla Electric Industries, who was found misusing ISI Mark on GLS Lamps of ''Saurav'' and ''MRI'' brands and another at F B Varuna Sales Corporation, who were selling spuriously ISI marked submersible pumps. From these firms, a huge quantity of spuriously marked products were seized. The third raid was conducted at Shakti Udyog, who was found misusing BIS Standard Mark on ''Shakti'' and ''Gripper'' brands of Self Adhesive Electrical Insulating Tapes.

A raid was also conducted in Rajasthan at Electric House, Jaipur which was misusing ISI Mark on Ceiling Fans under the brand ''Crown''.

One raid was conducted in Uttar Pradesh at Ashutosh Industries, Mathura, who was found misusing ISI Mark on PVC Wire and Cables under brand name ''Prince'', ''Topline'', ''Johnson'', ''Reon'' etc and a huge quantity of spuriously marked products were seized.

Three raids were conducted in Maharashtra. Of these, two raids were conducted in Mumbai at Dhruv Enterprises who were misusing ISI Mark on three Pin Plugs under brand ''Oswal'' and Matchwell Engineering Company, who was found misusing ISI Mark on PVC Insulating Tapes under brand ''Wonder''. Another raid was conducted at Om Sai Motors, Goregaon, who were found misusing ISI Mark on Electric Food Mixers under various brands such as ''Thomson'', ''Galaxy Gold'', ''Lakshmi'', ''Samsung'' etc and a huge quantity of spuriously marked products were seized.
