Monsoon revives in MP

Bhopal, Aug 30 (UNI) After a brief lull, monsoon activity revived in Madhya Pradesh with heavy rainfall soaking several places in the state's eastern part.

Meteorological department spokesperson said a low pressure area has developed near Chhattisgarh due to which rainfall was expected in Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, Hoshangabad, Indore and Bhopal divisions in the next 24 hours.

Besides Jabalpur division, monsoon was active in the state's southern and eastern part overnight.

The chief amounts of rainfall were in Satna (5 cm), Narsinghpur (5), Devari (5), Kevlari (5), Lanji (4), Ghansaur (4), Varaseoni (4), Seoni (3), Balaghat (3) and Damoh (3).

Since morning, intermittent rainfall occurred the state capital, which has received 1,219 mm rainfall, 353 mm more than average rainfall.

Meanwhile, a report from Raipur said, heavy rains occurred in Raipur and Bastar divisions besides some parts in Bilaspur divisions, overnight courtesy a low pressure area built over the Bay of Bengal and advancing towards Chhattisgarh's Raipur.

Keshkal in Bastar division turned out to be the wettest place overnight recording 16 cm rainfall, while 10 cm rainfall occurred in Kondagaon, 9 cm in Narayanpur, 10 cm in Sarangadh, 10 cm in Nagri, 11 cm in Dhamtari, seven cm in Kasdol and 14 cm in Saraipali.

According to flood control room, 45,000 cusec water was released from Sondhur dam, while 16,000 cusec water was released from Sikaser dam on Pairi river.

The district collectors of affected districts were informed about the release of water from dams.

Traffic was thrown off gear along Raipur-Jagdalpur National Highway near Keshkal due to heavy rainfall last night. Normal traffic movement was restored after rainfall stopped this morning.
