Monsoon remains subdued in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) Monsoon remained subdued in Punjab and Haryana and most parts of Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

Except Ludhiana in Punjab and Hissar in Haryana, no rainfall activity was reported from anywhere from the two states. Ludhiana recorded trace rainfall while Hissar measured 0.3 mm rainfall overnight.

Rains also eluded most areas of Himachal Pradesh. However, Kullu recorded 2.2 mm and Solang Nullah 1.8 mm downpour, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the district.

Shimla, the state's capital town, experienced freakish weather with fog and monsoon clouds hovering in the skies. However, tourist place of Moshobra, near Shimla, experienced rain, recording 1.6 mm.

The tribal belt in the state experienced partially cloudy weather during the day after a snowfall in the higher reaches yesterday.

There was no rainfall activity in lower areas of the state.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were lashed by sharp showers this evening after the dark clouds enveloped the city, providing respite to people from hot weather conditisons.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 48 hours. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and north and north-eastern parts of Punjab and north-eastern parts of Haryana during the next 24 hours.
