Moily Committee on quota misses deadline

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Veerappa Moily Committee on implementation of the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in elite institutions will not be able to meet its deadline of tomorrow and expects the final report by September 15.

''The consultations were over only yesterday, so we need sometime to analayse and synthesise the various views,'' Mr Moily told UNI over phone from Bangalore.

''I hope the Report would be ready by September 15 ,'' he added.

The Committee headed by the former Karanataka chief minister had been asked to prepare a roadmap for the implementation of 27 per cent reservation without harming the interest of the general category students.

It was to suggest how the seats can be increased in the IITs IIMs and other professional institutions so that the increased number rof students could be accommodated without compromising the quality of education.

The Committee had submitted an interim report in July and it was asked to give a final report by August 31.

Mr Moily said in the final rounds of consultations with experts, he discussed how the quota should be implemented and the nature and extent of the role of the Government and the managements of the institutions.
