Labourers clash with police, 11 injured
Jamnagar, Aug 30 (UNI) Eleven people,including ten policemen, were injured today when a group of labourers clashed with the police following an accident near a refinery project on the Jamnagar-Khambalia road in which one of their colleagues was injured.
Police had to fire 15 rounds and lob teargas shells to quell the violence, said Deputy Superintendent of Police J B Vasava. One person was injured in the firing.
The labourer was injured after he was hit by a speeding jeep near the Essar refinery project gate around 0830 hrs. This enraged other labourers who pelted stones at the security men posted at the refinery and the policemen and set on fire three vehicles.
They also broke the windshield of a police van.
Rajkot range IGP V V Rabari has also reached the spot. One company of SRP was deployed. The situation is now under control, Mr Vasava said.
An Essar spokesperson said that the incident has not affected the construction work at the refinery.
