Killers of security, police personnel arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have unearthed an Al Badr module responsible for killing security and police personnel by arresting three militants of the outfit.

Addressing a news conference here, state Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma said there have been killings of security and police personnel recently.

Several personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police were targeted by the militants in a coordinated manner, he added.

''We lost two CRPF, as many BSF personnel and three policemen while two others survived the attack and are still in the hospital,'' Mr Sharma said.

The DGP said the police conducted intensive investigations into the matter. ''We are happy to announce that an Al-Badr module responsible for four such killings has been unearthed and have arrested three militants of the outfit,'' he added.

Mr Sharma said Bashir ahmad Teli, Showkat Ahmad Teli and Feroz Ahmad Najar carried out the killings of one sub-inspector, one head constable and two constables.

''Besides confessing to the killing of the security and police personnel, the ultras also revealed the names of their associates out of whom five have been apprehended so far,'' he added.

The DGP said some more arrests were soon expected.

During the course of investigations, Mr Sharma said one pistol, 80 rounds, four detonators and two grenades have been seized so far.

He said the investigations further led the police to another Al-Badr militant identified as Showkat Ahmad from whom a pistol, two magazines and four rounds were seized.

His possible link to the killings of the personnel was being investigated, the DGP added.
