Srinagar, Aug 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have solved a murder case in Badgam district in just 12 hours by arresting three people.

Addressing a news conference here, state Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma said police have successfully solved a murder case of Mehraj-ud-din Bhat, a resident of Riar Beerwah in Badgam district.

Bhat, a carpet weaver, was murdered by unidentified people on August 28. The case was solved within 12 hours, he added.

Mr Sharma said three people -- Mohammad Shafi Bhat, Abdul Rashid Bhat and Nazir Ahmad Bhat -- have been arrested in connection with the murder.

The fourth accused -- Ghulam Hassan Malik, a resident of Arizal -- was still at large, he added.

The DGP said the victim and the assailants had a dispute over money.

''On the fateful day, at the end of day's work, the carpet weaver was intercepted by the accused and killed mercilessly,'' he added.
