Govt to ensure 7 hours power supply for crops: AP CM

Hyderabad, Aug 30 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the power officials to ensure seven hours power supply to standing crops in the State.

An Official release said here that while reviewing the demand and supply of power to the farm sector with the top officials here, Dr Reddy said the peak demand of 8281 MW on August 27 and the energy of 174.5 MU on August 26 this khariff season were the highest ever recorded in the history of the State.

Dr Reddy said the daily energy requirement would further increase to around 180 MU a day and the peak demand to 8500 MW during this khariff.

The Chief minister said that it was not possible to maintain more than seven hours of power supply to the standing crops.

He exhorted the officials that transformers in cities should be replaced within 24 hours and 48 hours in rural areas, the release added.
