Giant sea fish creates stir in local market

Kolkata, Aug 30 (UNI) A giant sea fish, weighing 200 kg, created a stir in a local fish market in Kolkata's twin city Howrah this morning as hundreds of people flocked to have a glimpse of the rare species.

Caught in the net of fishermen in the deep sea near West Bengal's border with Orissa, the four feet two inch long aquatic animal has a different look from those usually brought to market for sale.

Bodru Mondal, one of the fishermen who captured the fish, said it took them nearly two hours to get it on the trawler. ''We had no inkling that it was so big a catch till we had a final look at it,'' he said.

Expressing inability to specify the name, local fish merchants said it was an uncommon species that they had ever experienced.

It was perhaps because of the people's lack of enthusiasm for having a taste of the unknown species than to have a look at it, that the fish had been priced at a thrwoaway Rs 20 a kg in the local market.
