Floods in Srikakulam again

Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 30 (UNI) Vamsadhara river is once again in spate due to heavy rains in neighbouring Orissa and inflows from there.

The inflow had already reached 90,000 cusecs and authorities expected it to reach 1.10 lakh cusecs by night.

Authorities had sounded the second warning and were engaged in shifting people living in the low-lying areas.

According to reports reaching the district headquarters, flood water had already encircled several villages. In Ilumuru mandal, water had entered several villages. As the flood water bund had breached at Karakavalasa during recent floods, roads were water logged in Komanapalli village.

Vehicular traffic to villages like Srimukhalingam, Achyutapuram, Mettapeta and Nagarikatakam villages had come to stand still due to the breach.

As water overflowed the Rama Krishnapuram bridge, traffic to Rama Krishnapuram, Varlam, Yatapeta and other villages had also halted.

Reports said 5,000 acres of land was submerged in Ilumuru mandal alone.
