Exhibition by tribal artisans formally inaugurated
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) 'Aadishilp', the National Tribal Craft Expo to showcase products of tribal artisans, was formally inaugurated today by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs P R Kyndiah.
About 400 artisans from various parts of the country are displaying their products at Dilli Haat along with colourful tribal dances and tribal cuisine.
''The idea behind organising the Expo is to provide a platform to tribal artisans to showcase their rich and ethnic art and craft,'' Mr Kyndiah said.
He said the event presents a holistic picture of tribal culture and heritage in all its vibrancy and colour.
''The experience gathered by the artisans during the Expo will not be confined to them only and they will share their experiences with others in their areas and encourage them to create beautiful marketable products,'' he added.
The exhibition is organised by the Tribal Cooperation Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) an organisation of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Tribal artisans from all over the country have brought their creations in metal, terracotta, textile, bamboo and forest products TRIFED is aiming at providing institutional support to the tribal artisans so that art and craft making activity become a livelihood generating opportunity. The organisation has initiated a new concept of organising Tribal Artisan Mela (TAM) as an exercise to source tribal art and craft directly from the tribal artisans/ group of artisans.
