EC: Congress awaiting concrete proposals from CPI(M)

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Congress today refrained from commenting on the proposals for reform of the Election Commission mooted by the CPI-M until the latter came out with some concrete ideas in this regard.

"We would not like to comment until final proposals come to us,"Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singh said replying to a question at a press briefing here.

Mr Singhvi said the Election Commission was a Constitutional institution which is independent and autonomous. It is constitutionally insulated from external influences.

"We can not treat EC casually. If meaningful and concrete proposals come, then only we will discuss," Mr Singhvi said.

The CPI-M has reportedly mooted reform of the Election Commission suggesting a review of the Article 325 so as to curtail its autonomy.
