Date of sealing of banquet halls extended to September 7
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has extended to September 6 the deadline for the closure of banquet halls in the capital, following withdrawal of exemption granted to them under the Delhi Law (Special Provisions) Act, 2006.
Earlier, under the instructions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee, a public notice was issued that banquet halls would not be allowed to function in the residential areas from September 1, in accordance with the directions of the apex court which had stayed certain provisions of the Act.
However, after a number of representations were received by the MCD as well as the Monitoring Committee highlighting difficulties in arranging alternative site for marriages etc. at such a short notice, the deadline for closure of banquet halls has now been extended to September 6 as approved by the Monitoring Committee.
Accordingly, MCD would now start sealing of banquet halls in residential areas from September 7, an MCD spokesperson said.
