Datatype Equipment launches 'Lipikaar' software for PC users

Mumbai, Aug 30 (UNI) Thanks to a software developed by a Pune-based firm, working in any of various Indian languages on your PC has become easy now.

Priced at Rs 1,250, the software 'Lipikaar', which was commissioned by Datatype Equipment Pvt Ltd on August 15 in Pune through its website www.lipikaar.com, allows one to type in any of the different Indian languages in all the Windows applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and others without any difficulty.

Talking to UNI over phone today, company CEO Jugal Gupta said, ''The evaluation copy of the software can be freely downloaded by the users for a period of one month from the company's website''.

Also, the CDs of Lipikaar are being sold through the branches of the company at places like Pune, Chandigarh, Delhi and Kolkata and the company is under the process of opening its branch in Mumbai in near future for the purpose, he said.

Mr Gupta claimed that it will take hardly 10 minutes for the users to learn to type in any of the several Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Nepali, Konkani, Kashmiri and Sindhi (all in Devnagari script). ''The software is also available in other languages in their own scripts like Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayam and Urdu,'' he added.

Asked what was unique about Lipikaar at a time when there were quite a few softwares like Extended ASCII already available in the Indian market, Mr Gupta said, the problem with those softwares being that they didn't allow the receivers of the documents to decipher the Indian language text as per his choice, in case he didn't have installed the software into his system.

However, Lipikaar is based on UNICODE-the new universal standard for all the languages of the world that is available in Windows XP, Windows 2000 and others. Thus we can now freely send emails, attach documents written in any of the Indian languages to friends and relations without worrying about the software-compatibility issues, he said.

Talking about the features of Lipikaar, he said, it allows easy switching between English and Indian languages using Caps Lock key thereby allowing easy insertion of English words in Indian language text and supports complete character set as recommended by Bureau of Indian Standards.
