Dam breaches in MP
Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, Aug 30(UNI) The Piplai dam near Raisen town in Madhya Pradesh breached last night and efforts were on to plug the leak, officials said today.
Residents of half a dozen villages downstream were asked to leave their houses and take shelter in other places. Three relief camps had been opened.
Senior officials of Irrigation department from Bhopal reached the spot to supervise efforts to stop the leakage through a breach on its embankment, despite releasing water through its two gates.
The dam was constructed in 1986 at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
