Pune, Aug 30 (UNI) The Central Railways(CR) services can be expected to improve only by next year after the introduction of 50 rakes, informed CR General Manager V K Kaul here today.

Addressing a press conference, the General Manager said that the CR was not in a position to provide better services due to the non-availability of rakes.

''There is not even one extra rake, therefore there is no margin to improve and the problem is compounded because of the DC wires'', he said.

Presently, 150 rakes are being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory at Perimbur, Tamil Nadu. The replaced rakes in Mumbai will be used in Pune. The rakes will be like the metro trains without features like automatic doors and air conditioning. Since, there is more pressure in Mumbai, the doors have to remain open, he said.

Also, there is a need to change the signalling systems and related equipments, he said adding that by next year, both DC and AC systems will be possible. Around 60 per cent of the work including conversion from DC to AC has been completed on Pune-Mumbai line.
