Patna, Aug 30 (UNI) Patna High court today quashed the arrest warrant against advocate R Giriyage, issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Hajipur in connection with a criminal case involving Rail DIG Ajay Verma.

After hearing the petition of Mr Giriyage, a single bench of the court of Justice I P Singh quashed the non-bailable arrest warrant (NBW), issued to arrest both Mr Verma and Mr Giriyage.

Mr Giriyage had separately filed the petition before the High Court and pleaded that he was implicated in the case as his name had not been mentioned in the FIR of the related case.

The counsel of Mr Giriyage said the petitioner was being dragged just because he was closely associated with Mr Verma, the Rail DIG.

Mr Verma also moved for anticipatory bail in the High Court yesterday in connection with the same criminal case after the sessions court of Hajipur rejected his anticipatory bail petition on August 26.

Mr Verma was evading arrest since issuance of the NBW by a court of Hajipur.

Earlier, retired school teacher Rajendra Prasad Rai had lodged a complaint with Town police station in Hajipur on January 24 alleging the DIG was interfering in his family matter over a dispute.

Meanwhile, following demands of the wife of the DIG, the state government instituted a fresh probe into the entire episode.
