Copper production surges in April-June 2006

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Total production of copper cathode in the organised sector during the first quarter of this financial year rose to 1,84,114 tonnes against 1,49,307 tonnes in the year-ago period.

Of this, the public sector Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) produced 11,772 tonnes in April-July 2006 against a target of 11,720 tonnes.

However, private sector units Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) did not fare so well, recording a drop in production at 88,623 tonnes against a target of 1,03,575 tonnes while Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (SIL) produced 83,719 tonnes against a target of 96,078 tonnes.

The total production of copper cathode in July 2006 was 53,244 tonnes with HCL producing 2,682 tonnes, HINDALCO 23,953 tonnes and SIL 26,609 tonnes.
