Cong scoffs at BJP for being "party with difference"
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Blaming the BJP and its frontal organisation ABVP for lowering the status of Gurus and teachers as evidenced by the cruel murder of a professor by students in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress today demanded that they apologise to the nation and severest punishment be meted out to the miscreants.
"True to its claim of being a party with a difference, the party has given a new meaning to the teacher and taught relationship and the concept of Guru Dakshina by the cruel murder by the ABVP activists of a professor and causing death by heart attack of another in Ujjain,"Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.
Briefing media persons here, Mr Singhvi said the justification and the explanation given by the BJP and the ABVP for this heinous crime is "intolerable and nauseating". In a country where the Guru is equated to God,"the ABVP has given us a new definition of Guru Dakshina by beating a professor to death." On the one hand there is a proposal for BJP leader L K Advani to take a"parikrama"of the makeshift temple in the disputed site of Ayodhya and on the other a new definition is being given to the concept of "Guru Dakshina"by beating to death a professor, Mr Singhvi said.
The BJP, he said, had given another instance of its claim to being a party with a difference by the arrest of an editor of a daily who wrote about flood relief work in Surat in Gujarat."This had proved the intolerant face of the BJP and Chief Minister Narendra Modi and their hollow claim to their being a defender of press freedom." "The BJP and Mr Modi want a lapdog not those who give honest opinion," Mr Singhvi said, adding" this is yet another face of the party with a difference." UNI YS RP VV1907
