Cong demands CBI probe in Prof attack case

Bhopal, Aug 30: The Congress launched day-long dharna in front of the Chief Minister's residence here today demanding CBI probe into the 'murder' of Prof Harcharan Singh Sabharwal in students attack at Ujjain.

MPCC President Subhash Yadav, leader of the opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi and prominent party leaders, who took part in the dharna, also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Congress also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation and government job to the next of kin of Prof Sabharwal and retired principal Shachindra Upadhyaya, who also died of shock after the students attacked the professors following postponement of students union elections on Saturday.

They also demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation to Prof Motilal Nath, who was attacked and his face blackened by the students.

The Congress leaders alleged that ABVP workers involved in the attack were being shielded by the BJP government.

Ironically nobody had been named as accused so far in Prof Sabharwal's murder, while 28 people, mostly Congress workers, had been arrested in connection with blackening the face of Prof Nath and ''violence'' during the otherwise peaceful Ujjain bandh on Monday.
