Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) Students of the MCM DAV College today called off their strike, after the college administration allowed the use of mobile phones in the college premises.

The students were on strike since this morning protest against Physical Education lecturer Jagdish Bains, who had, allegedly slapped first year student Shivani Verma after she refused to listen to his instructions about not using the cell phone in the college premises on Monday.

This led to a confrontation between the college students on the one side and the faculty members on the other.

The issue could not be resolved despite nearly eight-hour long meeting between the students and college principal yesterday.

Principal Puneet Bedi today announced the use of mobile phones in college premises but with restrictions, after the dispute was resolved in a meeting between the faculty members and parents of the student.

The principal said that mobiles have to be switched off in classrooms, outside principal's office and corridors.
