CBI arrests four in Tamil Nadu insurance scam

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The CBI has arrested four persons, including a retired Police Inspector and two Public Works Department (PWD) officials, for fraudulently making insurance claims by ''enacting a false accident''.

The arrests of Inspector (now retd) Kulasndaivelu, posted at Kottampatti police station, PWD Junior Engineer Kannan, PWD Works Inspector Raju and driver Paramasivam were made by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI at Chennai yesterday, according to the CBI here.

While one of the arrested PWD official is the father of the deceased Sri Shankar, the other is the driver of the vehicle which was shown to have met with the accident that killed Sri Shankar.

The four were produced before the competent court at Chennai today and remanded to judicial custody till September 12.

It was alleged that the accused had filed a fraudulent claim of insurance for the death of one Sri Shankar by enacting a false accident.

This is one of the 13 cases registered by the CBI on the orders of the Madras High Court to probe massive frauds in making false insurance claims.
