Carrying firearms banned in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) The Chandigarh administration has banned carrying firearms at public places including educational and other institutions from tomorrow.

The ban on firearms under section 144 Cr P C has been imposed till October 29 by the District Magistrate R K Rao, who issued orders in this regard today.

''It has been seen that some members of public are moving around with small weapons openly tucked-in in the waist belt for show off and intimidation and openly carrying weapons by the licence holders has created panic in the public,'' the Disrict Magistrate observed in his orders.

There was apprehension of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility besides danger to human life and safety by the display of weapons, he stated, while reasoning for the ban.
