BSF concerned over villagers' help to subversive elements

Bongaon, Aug 30 (UNI) Border Security Force in South Bengal today expressed concern over the involvement of a section of the villagers in helping illegal intrusion of subversive elements across the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas.

Additional Director General of BSF Damodar Sarengi here said there were evidences that subversive elements like ultras had been entering the country from Bangladesh with the help of the villagers, who had been serving them for earning money and thereby causing danger to the country.

Mr Sarengi, had, however, called upon the inhabitants of the bordering villages to abjure such practice and inform the BSF at the nearest Border outposts whenever they found any such unknown person crossing the border.

The BSF had already started special campaign for the purpose while they invited the local villagers of Haridaspur and adjoining areas along the international border at the its camp near here at Haridaspur close to the Petrapol corridor with the neighbouring country here in North 24 Parganas this afternoon in the presence of their Additional Director General and tried to interact with them on the vulnerability of their illegal practices.

Mr Sarengi also observed that it was not possible for a few companies of BSF to guard along international border unless local people help them. Erection of fencing with barbed wires was yet to be completed along more than one thousand km border in this part of the state.

Only 70 per cent of the total border had been fenced so far, he added.

He expected that the erection work could only be completed by next year.

He said the terrorists had chosen this side of the international border as the safest route for them as it was evidently found in Hangalganj from where two Pak terrorists could be apprehended only with the help of villagers. The commands of the BSF Battalion guarding the borders in Bangon area were also present during the meeting today.
