Guwahati, Aug 30: If your car has been lifted at the dead of the night, you don't need to rush to the police station early in the morning.

Lodging a complaint would soon be a mouse click away in Asom.

The Asom Police is all set to launch a network in a phased manner, which would cater to the investigating officers as well as the general public.

The Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA), developed with assistance of the NIC would network all the 256 police stations in the state.

In the first phase, 96 police stations would be covered by March next year. Out of these, CIPA would be implemented in 24 stations in Guwahati city, Kamrup and Morigaon within a short period.

A day-long workshop in this connection was held at the Police headquarters here recently.

Inaugurating the workshop, Director General of Police (DGP) D N Dutt said increased use of information technology would help in improving functioning of the force by facilitating easy recording, retrieval and analysis of large amount of information handled by the police department daily.

About 10,000 police investigators would be trained in the use of the application. The technological achievement was expected to bring transparency and accountability in the police department, the DGP added.

For the public CIPA would not only enable them to lodge their complaints through internet, but also keep track of the development in investigations. All information regarding the progress in investigation of a case would be posted on the internet.
