AP adopts bill to provide relief in claiming maintenance

Hyderabad, Aug 30 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly tonight adopted a bill to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to enable parents and eligible children, legitimate or illegitimate, to launch proceedings under Section 125 to claim maintenance in their place of residence.

All parties supported the bill passed on a suggestion from the High Court to consider the problems of old and infirm parents, who were in no position take a long journey and file cases for claiming maintenance from their earning children.

Piloting the bill, Law and Courts Minister K Ramakrishna said the court felt the benefit already available to wives should also be provided to old parents and eligible children.
