14 players register for Pub-Pvt participation in container trains

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) A total of 14 players have registered for the scheme involving public private participation in running container trains, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said today.

While ten of these have registered on a pan-India basis, four have done so on a regional basis, Mr Velu said after inaugurating a seminar on management or operation of privately owned rolling stock today.

Addressing the participants at the seminar, Mr Velu said,''As container traffic is growing at 15-18 per cent annually and the projected exim traffic in containers between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and NCR is expected to be 60 per cent of total exim traffic in the future. It is hoped that this initiative would help crystallise views of experts in bringing about sophisticated logistics systems in the country.'' Among those who participated were Members, traffic railway board S B Ghosh Dastidar, member, mechanical, railway Board, R R Bhandari and additional member, mechanical engineering, railway Board P Bhattacharya.
