Work on Dasara to be completed before Sept 20

Mysore, Aug 29: Karnataka Housing and district incharge Minister D T Jayakumar today announced that all necessary works for the famous Mysore Dasara festivities will be completed well before September 20.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said 13 sub-committees had been formed to take up various works, details of which would be announced by September one. In view of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, the Chairman of the high-power committee for the festivities, directing to organise Dasara on a grand scale, the district administration had taken up suitable measures. A Rs three crore proposal had been submitted to the State Government, of which Rs 75 lakh had been released. Besides, Rs 11 crore had been granted to the city corporation and Rs six crore to PWD to undertake road repairs in the city, he added.

Mr Jayakumar said that since the Talakad Panchalinga Darshan would take place simultaneously, the Chief Minister had released Rs 36 crore for the religious event.

He said the district authorities proposed to hold a convention of Stree Shakthi groups in the city on the eve of the festivities and nearly 25,000 delegates were expected to participate in it.

For the first time, a State level Kite festival would also be organised on the occasion for three days from September 23. A national level Karate competition would be held from September 23, with over 2,000 competitors. Te district authorities would conduct a national wrestling competition and over 1,000 wrestlers from all over the country would participate in the seven-day event, commencing from September 23, he said.
