Teachers launch hunger strike in Manipur
Imphal, Aug 29: Members of the All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers Association continued their fast unto death at Keishampat for the second day today.
About 25 teachers had launched the strike from yesterday after the government failed to meet their demands. For almost 75 days the teachers had launched relay hunger strike at various places.
The teachers had been demanding more assistance from the state government and sanction of more posts in the government aided colleges.
Officials said there were about seven government aided colleges in the state but they were not producing good students. There was no room of more appointment also as the teacher student ratio was almost 1 : 2 in some colleges it was stated.
The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) and other organizations had also been demanding immediate resolution of the impasse between the teachers and the government.
