Over 20 drown as tempo plunges into Krishna
Bangalore, Aug 29: At least 25 people were feared drowned as a a tempo in which they were travelling fell into river Krishna as the driver lost control over the vehicle near the Alamatti Dam in Bijapur district of Karnataka today.
Bijapur Superintendent of Police Seemant Kumar Singh said over 30 people, belonging to Hosahalli in Koppal district, were travelling in the tempo at the time of mishap. The occupants of the ill-fated tempo were proceeding from the Alamatti dam to Koodalasangama, a pilgrim spot, when the driver lost control over the vehicle while crossing a bridge, built across the river, on National Highway 13.
While six of them swam to safety, the fate of the remaining was not known immediately.
Top police officials rushed to the spot to overlook rescue operations.
