60-year man held for raping a teenager

Aizawl, Aug 29: A former Mizoram government employee was sent to judicial custody for allegedly raping and murdering a 14-year girl in the state's Kawrthah area two weeks ago.

Police said here today that the accused A C Talukdar(60) was arrested following discrepancies in his alibi for the incident and the court had sent him to judicial custody for interogation.

After detailed investigation, Kawrthah police have arrested the main suspect in the rape and murder of Lalrempuii last week.

''An eyewitness in the case had reportedly seen someone going out from the house of Lalrempuii on August 14 night. Police caught Talukdar and on questioning his involvement in the case was established,'' said officer-in-charge of Kawrthah police station.
