Spain rout Pakistan 6-2 at Hamburg Masters

Hamburg, Germany, Aug 27 (UNI) Bouncing from a 0-2 deficit, Spain pumped in half a dozen goals to thrash Pakistan 6-2 at the Hamburg Masters here today.

No sooner than the match began, Pakistan started calling the shots and Shakeel Abassi could have put his team ahead in the third minute but his shot went wide of the target.

However, the South Asians did not have to wait for long and three minutes later Wakas Akbar knocked the ball in to make it 1-0 in favour of Pakistan.

Having tasted the blood, the Pakistanis stepped up the gas and on Hussain's pass, Abbasi atoned himself by dodging the Spanish keeper Herreira in the 18th minute to make it 2-0.

Sensing some complacence in the oppostion, the Spaniard started crawling back into the game and Edward Tubau capitalised on a defensive lapse to pull one back for Spain in the 35th minute.

Spain were a different team after the lemon break and soon started pushing for the equaliser. In the 41st minute Santi Freixa beat goalkeeper Ahmad to drew parity and then scored off a penalty corner two minutes later to put his team ahead.

Pakistan tried hard but the Spaniard were in control of the game and Pol Amat scored in 60th minute from the goal mouth to make it 4-2.

Spain scored two more in the dying moments to complete the routing.
