Seven dead as minibus hit pedestrians in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 27 (UNI) At least seven people, including four women, died and six others were injured when a minibus hit pedestrians and later turned turtle near Digiana Ashram on the outskirts of the city this morning.

Police told UNI a minibus lost control after hitting the pedestrians at two points and later turned turtle, killing five people on the spot, including two women, and injured eight others.

They were all standing on the roadside after paying obeisance at a Gurudwara.

All the injured were brought to government medical college here where two women succumbed to their injuries. The condition of one was also said to be critical.

The deceased have been indentified as Darshan Singh, Ram Kaur, Makhan Kaur, Tarsen Lal, Dilawar Singh and Prem Kaur, Sarabjeet Kaur. The driver of the minibus has been arrested for negligent and reckless driving.
