Police festival takes off in Srinagar
Srinagar, Aug 27 (UNI) A day-long police welfare mela was held here today.
The festival, being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, was inaugurated at 1000 hrs by state Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma at the Sher-i-Kashmir cricket stadium here. The mela was also open for the general public.
Various welfare wings and voluntary organisations representing Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were participating in the mela and had displayed their products in more than 25 stalls for exhibition and sale purposes on reasonable rates.
Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association Chairperson Vimla Sharma and other senior police officials were present on the occasion.
The main features of the Mela were raffle draw, lucky dip, tambola, Kashmiri embroidery, Ladakhi crafts, phulkari work, target shooting, mehandi, walnut and willow furniture, Basholi paintings, delicious snacks, rides and jhulas, cultural entertainment programmes and other attractive games.
The Association has decided to enhance the number of prizes for the first time for general masses who had shown keen interest in their participation in police melas since the past five years.
