Mayawati elected BSP president unopposed

Lucknow, Aug 27 (UNI) BSP supremo Mayawati was today elected national president of the party unopposed for the second consecutive term.

No other leader had fought for the post against Ms Mayawati, whose name was proposed by the presidents and vice-presidents of the party's units in 20 states.

Over 970 party delegates had supported her name.

Returning Officer Ambat Rajan announced the election of Ms Mayawati as the party president.

The party president's election was to be held a month in advance as the state is going to polls in September.

Ms Mayawati had suceeded Mr Kanshi Ram as the party president in September 2003.
